Description of Project Create a board game
For this project you will work in a group with 3-4. You are
to choose a game to redesign, change the theme, or create a completely new
game. In this new game include aspects of color theory, specifically color
interaction and color unity. In your group you and your group members will work
on different parts of the game, including the board, box, game pieces,
instruction manual, and whatever else is needed to play the game. To decide on
a color scheme for this project, research on color psychology or symbolism is
needed to fit your target audience.

Summary of Project
So far, this project has been my favorite project all year. I liked this project because of the hands on activity that it involved and the planning that it needed. I also enjoyed learning how to work with wood and machines that I have never worked with before. This project however didn’t turn out the way I planned it to. I realized that working with the band saw and straight lines is much harder than I anticipated and didn’t leave much room for error. In my original plan I wanted to use the drill press 5 1 inch holes onto the side of my box to show the color of each nail polish bottle without reveling what it was, but without thinking of how thin the wood on the sides of my box would be it snapped the boards. I still managed to get a unique and manageable look from the damage but it’s just not what I envisioned. I am satisfied with my box for my first time with working with these machines.
David Pye Readings: The Nature and Design of Aesthetics
After reading this passage from The Nature and Design of Aesthetics, I realized how much we often do classify “cheaper” as “better”. We often try to get the most for our money to set put us ahead in the world. This reading also made me think of how everything around us is has practically been manipulated to fit our standards. Even the creation of the box I just made, the wood was manipulated from before I even handled it. Manipulation of natural elements has been happening for a very long time, it’s just a way to improvise life. Until the end of the reading the author had a negative tone. The way I look at the manipulation of materials is just customizing it so it can be used for more things, what could be wrong with that? Design like the author said at the end of the reading can create happiness through beautifying the environment. I can directly relate to that because of my passion and personal impact for interior design.

Statement of Purpose
The object I have chosen to construct my box around is OPI nail polish. I choose OPI nail polish as my object(s) because of the lack of place for these bottles. The purpose is to give the nail polish bottles a place to be put and organized. I want to design my box with feminine attributes by using curves on the inside forming to the nail polish bottles but also having the outside be a basic rectangular form to look clean cut and organized. To make the box more interesting I have decided to put holes on the front and back of the box to show the viewer a small portion of color without giving away what the object is to make them curious as to what is inside. Along with the curves on the inside forming to the bottles I am going to put groves on the bottom to keep each individual bottle in place. My box will be able to contain five OPI nail polish bottles.
Description of Box Project
Choose an item that is important, or special to you in some way to create a box in which you will keep it in. Design your box to reflect the object's importance to you. You will create the box with one of the five woods the common shop offers. To construct the box you can use the band-saw, sander, or anything that is offered in the common shop of ku. You should try to keep the box size to a minimum and it must contain a lid.

Essay on Duality
I person that I have been close
with for the past 10 years is my stepdad. My stepdad and I have a great
relationship. I am choosing to write about him because of the impact he has
made on my life. My stepdad is one of the strongest men I know. He is willing
to do whatever is needed for any member of our family. The dedication my
stepdad shows in his work is remarkable. My stepdad wakes up earlier than the
sun to leave for work and usually is the last one to get home and never
complains. My stepdad is also a member of the united states air force, I love
this about him because it has made me even more proud to be an American and
more aware of what is going on our the world. Ever since my stepdad has become
a part of my life I have looked at others in the military with so much more
honor. He is easily the leader of our house and family. My stepdad has given me
a fatherly role under my own roof that I had never really had. Even though my
mom and he have a child of their own, to him we are all equally his children.
Never once has he treated my sister of the same dad and I any differently than
his own. My stepdad also has never had the intentions of replacing our father.
The best part of all his giving is that he never expects anything in return. He
by far has one of the biggest hearts of any human being I know. The amount of
support and love that my stepdad has for my family has only made me a better
person, I just hope to be half the person he is one day.

Kendal Buster
In Kendal Buster’s work you see a lot of repetition. Her
work is very intriguing in that aspect because of the diversity in her repetition
and the space she uses with it. She also uses very minimal materials to construct
her work. She often finds a way to make the familiar strange. I also find it
interesting how her work changes looks with different places of viewing. Kendal
Buster’s work applies to my current project most directly in the fact that you
can see the internal structure that is used to support her work.
Martin Puryear
After viewing Martin Puryear’s website and looking through
the photos I noticed how clean cut every project he did was. The craft he has
in all his work is precise. All of the work on the website is visually
balancing and on a large scale. His work is pure simplicity and beauty. Martin
Puryear’s work relates to my current project because you can see how he
structures his pieces well and in some cases he has illusions of furniture.
Description of Exercise 2 Chair Project
You are to write an essay on duality of a person you know in
which you can creatively relate in some aspect to the final chair project. The final
project of a final chair is to be constructed with cardboard; you can shape it,
form it, and cut it however you wish. The only limitation is that you may not
glue or tape.

Description of Exercise 1 Chair Project
Using a 4’x4’ piece of cardboard you are to construct a
chair. Guidelines for this chair include, must hold the weight of a person,
cuts and folds allowed but removing any cardboard is prohibited, and it must be
6” off the ground. The cardboard should be able to be unfolded and put back
into a contiguous 4’x4’ square.
